PERSONAL STORIES
When Denny and I moved to Sky Valley back in the summer of 2017, we didn’t know there was a chapel inside the Resort. What we noticed immediately were the people in the community. They were different from anyone else we knew. They were caring, loving, and willing to help each other even though we were complete strangers. We didn’t know they were Christians until later when a couple invited us for lunch at their home and then to chapel. After that, we realized that the common denominator of why the people here were different is their faith in Jesus Christ. That impacted us greatly. Denny and I started attending chapel and our faith in the Lord began to grow.
Nick and Rose Twomey, our new Chaplain and his wife, brought with them a love for God and for others that is contagious and has deeply impacted our community. There is a feeling of revival and it brings with it a sense of hope and joy, and attendance is growing as more people begin to feel it too.
On March 5th of this year at the end of the service, Nick said that if anybody was ready to be baptized to follow him to the pool, clothes and all. And to my complete shock, Denny jumped out of his seat and was the first one to the pool. A few minutes later I joined the crowd outside and witnessed one of the most beautiful moments of my life, seeing my husband being baptized. Three other people jumped in the pool including myself. It was a joyful day!
We always look forward to walking to the chapel in the winter months at Sky Valley Resort. With the birds singing and the sun shining, we meet and greet other like-minded people on their way also.
Being warmly greeted at the door cannot but let you know you are welcome. The worshipful music, in-depth teaching and relational messages from Chaplain Nick can’t help but stir our souls. It is the place to be on Sunday morning!
One day at the end of service, Nick said ‘you know there’s a pool right outside the doors.’ Well, four people got right in and were baptized that day. We love this place!
My wife and I are newer to Sky Valley Resort and are so glad that we went to “check out’ Sky Valley Chapel. We have come to love and value it. What first drew us to this group of people was their genuine joy and friendliness. The intimacy and authenticity of the smaller groups of individuals make it a place where you are known, welcomed and encouraged in your faith journey. Not only is it a place to come together on Sundays, but the relationships extend to other areas such as potlucks, bingo, tennis courts,… We have been prayed over and cared for. It’s a definite treasure of the Sky Valley Resort community.
I moved to Sky Valley Resort 11 years ago in large part because of the Chapel inside the resort. We were looking for a retirement place where the people we fellowship with at our ‘church’ were the same people that lived within our community. I started playing the piano for the chapel and was a part of the worship team & small singing groups for many years. I also started a women’s bible study as an offshoot of the chapel. The chapel is very much a part of my life here as a full time resident and I am thankful for the friendships and community life it offers.
